It’s the perfect location for taking a step back from the busy world
Turning into the drive I was struck by how beautiful and peaceful the setting was despite being only a couple of minutes from the A52, I loved all of the wildlife around, especially waiting for the pheasants who decided to walk in front of the car rather than fly. The barn feels authentic and use of natural colours gives it a warm relaxed atmosphere, the furnishings are great quality and tasteful but I also felt that I could live amongst them without being afraid to touch anything. I love the unique pieces that add to the character married up with the practical 21st century requirements of a great phone signal and WIFI throughout the barn.
From the braced and ledged doors with black ironmongery to the lovely embroidered artwork a lot of care has been taken to provide the complete comfort of a home from home. The barns have been renovated by an owner who cares about them, it is not a corporate business managed by housekeepers and it’s great to have all of the local knowledge provided especially for anyone new to the area.
I love that fact that Emma phoned the day before to say she was looking forward to me staying, that there were flowers and could help myself to produce off the trees, everything had been included from paper towels to olive oil . . . . the little things really matter. I felt very safe, this was key for me being on my own and at no stage have I felt overlooked even though there are neighbouring barns I walk past daily or the fact that the owner is just across the courtyard.
I was looking for a convenient location for commuting around Derby with the ability to work on my laptop and pretty much carry on as usual. What I have got is an extended holiday feel in a tranquil setting recharging my batteries, life is being lived at a relaxed slower pace, night times are so dark it’s so easy to fall asleep. It’s the perfect location for taking a step back from the busy world or a great base for the more active who want to get out and about in to Derbyshire.
